Season 1 digivices are often listed on ebay (in small numbers if any) ..though they do fetch quite a price.

Ya, I got the very first Digimon Tomagotchi.  The thing that started Digimon basically.  Only cost me $50.  That was still pricey because I don't like to spend money, but they are usually over $100.

I recall the tamagotchi's fondly. I think my record was keeping it alive 11 days and it reached ultimate stage (my memory's a little fuzzy about this though).

yeah toys and joys would be your best bet, they seem pretty reliable
