Dark theme, trying to bring a sense of reality into the show
This is what I felt/feel about adventure. Back when it was just a "kids show" it explored some pretty intense themes (though not always in the darkest of tones). Death for instance. It also explored friendship in a manner I'd never experienced from any other show.
and for once the characters didn't seem to have overwhelming stereotype personalities (imho).
Though adventure did this, it was done cleverly and for a reason. The show was aimed at pre-teens/early teens. At this stage in our lives we start to learn about who we are. We develope new interests, become individuals and begin on the path to adulthood.
The characters are such that every viewer can relate to at least one of them, or aspects of a few of them. They teach us to embrace our talents, to learn from our mistakes, to realise the importance of friendship and that with teamwork, great things are possible.
This show was in a league of its own. Unappreciated by the masses and abandoned too soon by a generation of brief digidestined
